Where IS Chiconautla?            BACK

Although we often refer to Chiconautla as part of Mexico City, in reality it is part of Mexico State.  Mexico City, a federal district like Washington, D.C., is the world's most heavily populated metropolis.  However, that metropolitan area is not confined to the city limits, but overflows into part of Mexico State, which surrounds Mexico City on three of four sides  (see map).  The city of Chiconautla (population 500,000) is on the northeastern ouskirts of the vast metropolitan area, belonging to Écatepec County in Mexico State.
